Installation Steps

Step 1: The power supply to the refrigerator is to be disconnected. Either the refrigerator power cord is to be unplugged from the wall socket or the switch on the circuit breaker is to be toggled to turn off the power.

Step 2: The location of the defrost heater is to be identified. Depending on your refrigerator model, it could be found at the bottom of the freezer compartment or concealed behind the refrigerator’s back panel.

Step 3: The screws that hold the heater in position are to be taken out. If needed, the flat head screwdriver is to be employed to extract the screws.

Step 4: The old defrost heater is to be extracted. Needle-nose pliers are to be utilized to pull the heater from its mounting bracket and it is to be disposed of properly.

Step 5: The new defrost heater is to be positioned. The new defrost heater is to be placed into its mounting bracket and it is to be fastened using the screws.

Step 6: The wiring harness is to be attached. A wire stripper is to be employed to remove the insulation from the wire ends. The wires are to be connected to their corresponding terminals on the defrost heater.

Step 7: Power to the refrigerator is to be reconnected. The refrigerator power cord is to be inserted back into the wall outlet or the circuit breaker is to be switched back on to restore power to the refrigerator.
