Installation Steps

Step 1: The washer should be disconnected from the electrical outlet and the water supply should be turned off. The two screws located at the rear of the washer cabinet should be taken out and the back panel should be detached.

Step 2: The lid switch situated on the left side of the washer cabinet, close to the control panel, should be identified. This switch is linked to two wires that are plugged into its body.

Step 3: The two wires that are connected to the lid switch should be detached. The clips that secure the lid switch should be released. The lid switch should be extracted by pulling it from its housing in the cabinet.

Step 4: A replacement lid switch, for instance, a Whirlpool part number 487576, should be acquired to be swapped with the old one.

Step 5: The new switch should be placed into the same slot where the previous one was located. It should be fastened using the clips that secured the old switch.

Step 6: The two wires should be reattached to the switch, ensuring they are securely connected.

Step 7: The washer's back panel should be reinstalled and fastened with the two screws. The washer should be reconnected to the power outlet and the water supply should be turned on.

Step 8: The washer's operation should be verified by closing the lid and allowing it to complete a cycle. The cycle should halt when the lid is opened. If it continues, it may need to be confirmed that the switch is properly connected to the wires and/or it should be replaced with a new lid switch.

Please remember that these directions should be utilized as general assistance and should always be utilized alongside the manufacturer's manual, if available.
