Product Description

The Whirlpool WP4387503 is a bimetal defrost thermostat, which is an essential component in refrigerators that controls the automatic defrost cycle. This nickel-plated, temperature-sensitive switch helps to avoid frost formation in the freezer compartment. Here's the manner in which it works: when the freezer temperature drops to a certain cold threshold, the bimetal defrost thermostat detects the drop and opens its connections. This interrupts the circuit to the compressor, enabling the freezer to warm up briefly. As the temperature rises, the thermostat's bimetal coil expands, finally triggering a switch that restarts the compressor and cooling cycle. This defrost cycle eliminates ice development on the evaporator coils, which can obstruct airflow and limit cooling performance.
