The Whirlpool WP354987 E Ring, also known as an idler shaft holding ring, is a small but important component of your Whirlpool washing machine. This ring holds the idler shaft in place by acting as a clasp. In the washer's belt drive system, the idler shaft is essential because it functions as a tensioner to maintain the drive belt taut and guarantee smooth performance. The drive belt may slip or come free if the idler shaft is not securely fastened, which would impair the washer's ability to rotate the drum and, eventually, clean your clothes. The WP354987 can be used to replace a worn-out or damaged E ring. This will properly tension the drive belt and ensure that the drum rotates efficiently during wash cycles.

Installation Steps

Step 1: The required tools will be gathered. A Phillips screwdriver and a flat-head screwdriver will be required.

Step 2: The refrigerator will be disconnected from the electrical outlet and the water supply connected to the refrigerator will be shut off.

Step 3: The items will be cleared out from both the freezer and refrigerator compartments, if necessary.

Step 4: A Phillips screwdriver will be utilized to remove the screws situated at the back of the refrigerator that hold the inner panel in place.

Step 5: The inner panel will be gently detached and placed to the side.

Step 6: The Whirlpool WP354987 RING-E located at the rear of the refrigerator will be identified. This is a circular gasket that secures the inner panel to the outer cabinet.

Step 7: The flat-head screwdriver will be employed to remove the old gasket. Care should be taken not to scratch or harm the surfaces adjacent to the gasket.

Step 8: The areas where the old gasket was affixed will be wiped down.

Step 9: The new Whirlpool WP354987 RING-E will be positioned appropriately. It should ensure that it is securely seated.

Step 10: With the Phillips screwdriver, the inner panel will be fastened back onto the outer cabinet.

Step 11: The water supply will be reactivated and the refrigerator will be reconnected to the power source.

Step 12: The items will be returned to the freezer and refrigerator compartments.
