The Whirlpool WP303396 serves as a high-limit thermostat which was designed solely for Whirlpool and Maytag dryers. This safety element is essential when controlling the dryer's temperature. It is situated near the heating element and monitors internal heat levels of difficulty, shutting power whenever they exceed a safe limit. This prevents overheating, which may damage the dryer and possibly trigger a fire. When the dryer operates normally, the thermostat allows the heating element to keep running until the necessary drying temperature is achieved. Whenever that point has been reached, the thermostat opens the circuit, shutting off the power source of electricity to the element and stopping further heating.
