The Moen 1423 Balancing Spool is installed within the shower valves to control the water temperature by balancing the pressure changes, between hot and cold water lines. This part ensures that there is a constant mixture of water so that there is no dramatic temperature fluctuation when using it. It works through sensing the changes in the pressure and adjusting the internal flow paths automatically to rebalance the mix.
