The General Electric WR51X31996 Refrigerator Defrost Heater melts the built-up frost on the evaporator coils in the automatic defrost cycle. The heater is installed on the side of the evaporator assembly in the appliance compartment and is linked to the wiring harness system and control of the refrigerator. It has a heating unit that is turned on at timed intervals to warm the coil and melt the frost that is accumulated and the water is then drained away and clearing the ice in the evaporator defrost heater maintains the proper airflow and cooling power.
