The General Electric PM77X001 Water Heater Expansion Tank 2.1 Gallon absorbs unintended pressure that develops as water heats and expands in a closed plumbing system and maintains a balance of pressure, preventing excess pressure in the system. It is attached to the cold water supply line next to the water heater where it is connected to the piping network with a threaded connection and aligned to the tank inlet to take in the increased amount of water. The unit is configured with an internal diaphragm and a pre-charged air chamber, which compresses at the time any pressure changes occur.
